The fastest growing e-identity solution Smart-ID has already gained 300 000 users in Latvia
300 000 people have already started using SK ID Solutions’ electronic identity solution Smart-ID in Latvia. There are altogether 650 000 Smart-ID users in the Baltics who make nearly 10 million transactions a month. This makes Smart-ID the fastest growing e-identity solution in the region.
In the Baltics, the Smart-ID user count has grown the fastest in Latvia where, until now, there was no convenient and secure mobile authentication solution. Smart-ID, which was launched in February 2017, gained the trust of 15 000 Latvians within the first month of its release and by June 2017, ten times as many Latvian inhabitants had become users of Smart-ID.
“Smart-ID is the fastest growing eID solution in the Baltics and it’s great to see that it’s especially popular in Latvia. In less than a year, Smart-ID has gained 650 000 users in the Baltics, out of which more than 300 000 are in Latvia, 200 000 in Lithuania and 150 000 in Estonia. Such a fast and persistent growth clearly shows that Latvians need a secure mobile authentication solution which they can use to access e-services. It shows that people are open to new convenient and trustworthy solutions,” said Liisa Lukin, the Business Development Manager of Smart-ID Services at SK ID Solutions.
“In less than nine months, Smart-ID became the primary means of authentication for our clients, and by now, we already have more Smart-ID users than users of other authentication solutions – code card or code calculator. “Mobile app is becoming an everyday banking tool – the number of Swedbank mobile app users increased significantly last year, hitting almost 300 000 in Latvia. And it even seems unbelievable that Smart-ID entered our lives so recently in light of how rapidly it has become a permanent fixture. Already, 150 000 of our customers are enjoying the convenience of Smart-ID and it has become popular among all audiences – for example, the youngest Smart-ID user is 8 years of age, whereas the oldest one is 98. Also, the logging activity into the mobile app has skyrocketed after the launch of Smart-ID. Of course, Smart-ID is also being actively used for other needs – internet bank, internet purchases etc. – thus, customers can save their time and choose the most convenient solutions. The bottom line is that Smart-ID users can already enjoy all the benefits of the modern bank from their pockets today. The innovative and convenient Smart-ID works on a simple principle: the user downloads the Smart-ID app from Google Play or App Store to his smart device and identifies himself electronically by using an ID-card or bank link or by visiting his local SEB Bank or Swedbank branch office. As with the ID-card, Smart-ID also requires the use of PIN1 and PIN2 codes which the user will create within the same app.
