As of today, the electronic identity solution Smart-ID, created by SK ID Solutions, already has 60 000 users in Estonia. Altogether, Smart-ID has more than 300 000 users in the Baltics.

The number of Smart-ID users has been steadily increasing every day and now, the solution has surpassed the milestone of 300 000 unique users in the Baltics. In Estonia, there are 60 000 Smart-ID users but in Latvia, nearly 160 000 people have started using the authentication solution and in Lithuania, 82 000 people. On average, 65 000 people use Smart-ID in a day.

“300 000 Smart-ID users and a steady rise in the number of transactions shows that people living in the Baltics really needed a convenient and secure authentication solution. On the one hand, the number of users is increasing most rapidly in Latvia, where until now, there were basically no comfortable electronic authentication solutions. On the other hand, Estonia has the most e-services that use Smart-ID. In addition to SEB Bank, Swedbank, LHV Bank, Telia’s self-service portal, DigiDoc’s portal and many other e-services, a new bit of positive news is that Smart-ID can now also be used to enter Eesti Energia’s e-service portal,” said Liisa Lukin, Business Development Manager of Value Added Services at SK ID Solutions.

“Eesti Energia’s e-service portal has become the most preferred communication channel for our clients. It is visited by 150 000 clients per month with every fifth visit being made via smart device. According to statistics, every other client of Eesti Energia owns a smart device. Smart-ID has now become a handy solution for logging in to various e-service portals, especially for owners of smart devices, which is also why we started using it in our e-service portal,” said Karla Agan, Head of Retail Business at Eesti Energia.

Smart-ID works on a simple principle: user downloads the Smart-ID app from Google Play Store or App Store to their smart device and identifies himself by ID-card or bank code card. As with the ID-card, Smart-ID also requires the use of PIN1 and PIN2 codes which the user will create within the same app. Using Smart-ID is free of charge and user data is completely secure.
