Smart-ID expands to Belgium

29.03.2024
We expanded our digital identity services to the heart of Europe offering easy and secure login for all Belgians to all common bank apps, government services and document platforms. Belgium is now the fifth country where Smart-ID is available.

Belgians are already acquainted with digital authentication at banks, e-shops or government websites such as Tax-on-Web. With Smart-ID, SK wants to offer a safe and user-friendly alternative, combining the strongest security and privacy with the highest convenience for users. As a first step of entering Belgium, we partnered with Trust1team, a provider of identification services to banks, government, and health organizations across Europe. Together with SK ID Solutions, Trust1team will also develop an offer for digital wallets, in line with European regulations.

Introducing the Smart-ID service in Belgium not only benefits local users and businesses but also offers a significant advantage to companies from other countries. By leveraging a standardized platform, hundreds of businesses that use Smart-ID for customer authentication and document signing can seamlessly expand their reach, connecting with a wider customer base. This move enables them to facilitate growth both within Belgium and across Europe more effortlessly.

As the market leader in all Baltic countries, Smart-ID recorded a total of 1 billion transactions in 2023. It will bring its convenient and affordable transaction-based business model to digital service providers in Belgium too. Moreover, the digital identity provider will commercialize a wider range of trust services in the country. For example, since 2019, the European Commission has been using SK ID Solutions’ timestamping to officialise documents proving the authenticity of a digital document and showing the exact date and time when it was created, stored or signed.

With the launch of Smart-ID in Belgium, SK ID Solutions continues to play a vital role in enhancing the security and convenience of digital services across Europe
