SeqLog (the name comes from the word Sequential Log) is a log system that ensures the reliability of the SK’s Validity Confirmation Service. Validity confirmations of certificates issued are preserved in a log system that allows for verifying them when necessary. The Validity Confirmation Service is used for verification of the validity of certificates, the service is based on OCSP (Online Certificate Status Protocol).
No information about the content of the signed document, the user’s PIN codes or other secret data is sent to SK and stored in the log. The log can only prove that the corresponding event took place, but not what the exact content of the event was.
All log entries are cryptographically linked – each log entry is derived from the previous log entry using mathematical methods, and thus no one, including SK, has the opportunity to falsify the log, e.g. insert subsequent entries without being detected. Thus, based on the log, it is also possible to reliably prove the sequence of events – e.g. in the case of two digital signatures, it is possible to show which one was given first.
