Belgian State e-services Can Now be Accessed with Smart-ID
Smart-ID has been added to Belgium’s federal authentication system as an officially recognised digital key, giving people a secure way to access state online services with their smartphone. After receiving the highest assurance level for digital identification in January 2026, Smart-ID was quickly integrated and tested with major public platforms and is now fully live for everyday use.
The integration builds on earlier technical and security accreditation and makes Smart-ID available as a daily identification tool in digital interactions with the government. By appearing alongside existing login options on the central government page, Smart-ID broadens choice and supports the development of a more open authentication market in Belgium.
Smart-ID meets the strictest Belgian and European security requirements and holds the highest assurance level under the eIDAS framework in four EU countries, including Belgium.
For regulated sectors such as banking, insurance and telecommunications, the successful deployment in the federal authentication system confirms that Smart-ID is suitable for services requiring strong, government‑grade digital identification and authentication.
